SALT LAKE CITY - This week, the Utah women will swim in their first home meet of the season against the Washington State Cougars at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Ute Natatorium.
Last weekend was a challenging one for the Utah swimming and diving team as it faced the reigning national champions, Cal, and the 2011 Pac-10 champions, Stanford. The Ute women's team completed the weekend with an 0-2 record, falling to the Cardinal 180-112 and the Golden Bears 174-105.
"This will be our first Pac-12 home meet," Utah head coach Greg Winslow said. "We are excited by the opportunity. It should be a close competition."

The Utah women's divers put up great numbers as Ellis Walters was the runner up in both the 3-meter (270.60) and 1-meter (274.73) dives. Jasmine Matkovic took fourth in the 3-meter (226.88) and the 1-meter (230.55).
Nicole Ligeza racked up points for the Utes with her winning 100 breast performance (1:06.51). Ligeza also placed third place in the 200 breast (2:25.36) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:07.69).
Samantha Zuch earned the runner-up spot in the 500 free (5:04.42) and LeighAnne Oliver grabbed third in the 100 breast (1:08.94).
The team of Traycie Swartz, Zuch, Hannah Caron and Maddie Jamora placed third in the 200 free relay.
Cal
The Ute diving team once again impressed against Cal at the Spieker Aquatics Complex on the women's side as Jasmine Matkovic placed second for Utah in the 1-meter dive (270.30). Ellis Walters was close behind in third with 267.75 points. In the 3-meter dive, Walters came out with the win (295.13) while Matkovic was third (239.18).
Hannah Caron took third place in the 200 fly (2:05.54) while Kayla Buck assisted the Utes with two fifth-place finishes in the 400 IM (4:35.97) and the 200 breast (2:27.27).
In the 100 free, Valerie McMullan claimed the fourth spot (54.75) while Samantha Zuch did the same in the 500 free (5:08.78).
This Week's Opposition
Washington State Cougars
Last Saturday, the USC Trojans defeated the Cougars 107-84 at the Gibb Pool. The Trojans set five pool records during the outing.
The Cougars best performances against USC came from Evelina Bieleckaite, Jenna Bekker, Melissa Bogert and Nicole Proulx who were teamed in the second-place 200 free relay.
Seniors Jessie Craig and Danielle contributed 10 points apiece, the second highest individual scores.
The Cougars are lead by first-year coach Tom Jager. Jager spent the previous seven seasons as the head coach at the University of Idaho and is a seven-time
Olympic gold medalist, five of them being gold.
