Utah Head Coach Jim Boylen
"I thought our defense was awesome and that is a difficult team to guard. I thought we competed at the defensive end. I felt like [TCU] got a lot of offensive rebounds, and then you look at the stats and they got eight, which isn't much. But they got some timely ones that I thought kept them in it."
"I felt like the pace in the first half was a grinding pace - I call it a Big-10 pace - of half court offense, not many fast breaks, 20-19 [score]. I talked about it at halftime, we have to run when we can and we need to try to get some easy baskets. I thought the two huge plays, [Josh] Watkins over the top to [Jason] Washburn and Watkins up the sideline to [Chris] Hines, were as big of plays in the game, with the game in mud like it was."
"We have been a running team, we have ran and ran and pushed it off makes and misses. We have just felt that it hasn't been a good situation for us all the time. What we are learning now is that we need to run off steals and rebounds and stops, but have some pace when we don't have that. It's something we are still learning that way. This team is learning how to win, how to play together, and I thought we made some plays tonight that winning teams make."
On David Foster's game-winning block
Obviously the block at the end - how fitting is that for David, our all-time shot block leader, to block the ball that could beat us - and I am very happy for him. I am a little bit surprised they went straight at David like they did. [Nikola] Cerina goes over his right shoulder quite a bit and that's what he did, made a nice move. I thought we were ready for it but he made a good move. I was just worried there was going to be an "and-one" on it."
Junior center David Foster
On his game-winning block
"I was shocked [that they came right at me]. He made the same play against Washburn earlier in the game so I guessed that he would do the same thing. But I just had to hold my ground and not jump. They didn't call a foul and it was a clean block. I was just grateful Hines was right there to dig [the loose ball] out. It is great to be in the record books with great players, and to be part of that tradition is a huge honor. I am going to keep working and try to build some insurance on that record."
Junior guard Josh Watkins
"It was a bad shooting night for us. We had to play 40 minutes of defense and we came out with a two-point win. It wasn't pretty but we stepped up and showed toughness out there. We stuck together. I like the nights when we have to grind it out defensively, personally. I liked the way, at the end of the game, we played well defensively and got a lot of stops and rebound the ball well."
Freshman wing J.J. O'Brien
On his second-half performance
"I was just trying to be aggressive, they were playing off me a lot and I was just trying to get to the basket and make plays. I was trying to get to the boards and get some rebounds, just being as aggressive as possible. More things started opening up for me in the second half. I started going a lot harder to the boards and that opened up opportunities for me."
TCU Head Coach Jim Christian
"We had our opportunities we had a good look at the end of the game. We knew Foster would be under the basket, we had to make a secondary move and that would have forced them to work a bit and tried to get a foul."
"We scored out of timeouts tonight. "We did find new things today and got second chances. It wasn't our defense. We can't shoot like that on the road and expect to win. I give Utah credit for their defense."
On his team's effort
"We played hard today. For the past couple games we have been out-rebounded so bad. I thought Garlon Green had two really big offensive rebounds and layups that was a huge step forward. We have to keep improving."
