Utah Head Coach Jim Boylen
"Well I thought they had us on our heels in the first half. Obviously they made seven threes in the first half. They stung us when we played zone and when we played man. We were down five at halftime. I didn't think we played great. We missed free throws, six and one one-and -one so seven in the first half."
"I felt our guys responded at halftime and our defense was awesome in the second half, as good as it has been with this group this year. But we couldn't score enough to take the lead. The play at the end where we couldn't cut the guy out, Washington lays it in was obviously a huge play."
"Something we have to get better at is closing out possessions at the end of the game when we make a run. This team fought, we fought back after being in a hole, the biggest lead was 12 by Air Force, and we fought and played uphill. We have done that a lot and it's tough. We struggled to cut the lead and we have to give them credit."
On Utah's first half struggles
"I think we respect our opponent maybe a little too much in the first half. We are kind of tentative. I said that before after Colorado State we were kind of tentative the first half for whatever reason, but I am glad that we picked it up in the second half. We knuckled down the second and got competitive."
Senior center David Foster
"It is extremely frustrating to lose to an Air Force team that we should have beaten. We give them credit though, they came in and competed and made shots."
"Everything you do in a game counts towards the end. Missing all those free throws, turning the ball over and not sharing it as much as we should have, all had an effect."
"We have great practices, but we have to take that on to the court as soon as the lights turn on and the moment we do that is the moment we take off and start to win some ball games."
Sophomore wing Shawn Glover
"I made a few shots and they started hugging me a little bit more, but I was able to shoot the ball pretty well."
"It is frustrating, everybody has to step up. I tried to do something, but it wasn't enough I have to give more."
"At this level you have to have a short memory, so we have to move on to the next game and not dwell on the past."
Air ForceHead Coach Jeff Reynolds
In the first half I thought both teams shot the ball fairly well. In the second half, I thought the defense from both teams picked up. Tonight, I think we shot 39%, they shot 38%, or vice-versa. And we even shot 41% from the free throw line, which is very uncharacteristic of us. So to be able to get a win, says something about our kids and how hard they've worked the last two days on the defensive side of the ball."
"We got out of the box early and made some shots. They were a very good three-point shooting team. In the second half I thought they really extended their defense and we weren't getting very many good, open looks. Most of our shots were highly contested."
On Shawn Glover
We recruited Shawn hard, and Jim saw him as much as anybody, but he didn't want to come to the academy for the Military aspect of it. He is a great player and he is starting to fill himself out, he is getting better and better."
"What was fortunate for us was we had a choice, whether to continue to double down on [David] Foster and [Jason] Washburn or to stay attached to him. So late in the second half, he made his fifth three and I said `don't leave him, stay attached."
