MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Utah diving team wrapped up competition at the NCAA Zone E Diving Regional Championships at the Minnesota Aquatics Center on Saturday.
"The meet was a big success for us as we proved that we are a team on the rise who will be able to compete really well next year in the Pac-12," said Utah diving coach Richard Marshner.
The platform dive was the final event of the competition.
In the preliminary round, Nelson Foo earned 300.10 points to qualify for the finals. This excels his performance on the platform dive last year by over 60 points. Overall, he placed 10th with a total score of 593.70.
"Nelson just needs a little bit more experience and practice on the tower with his new dives," said Marschner. "With that, I expect him to be a serious contender to make NCAA's next year."
Kwan Ling Yu placed 18th overall and did not qualify for finals in the platform dive.
"We have three sophomores who qualified for finals and placed very well at this meet," Marschner stated. "We have a lot to look forward to next year."
Next week, Hannah Caron will be representing the University of Utah at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. Competition will take place at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas from March 17 - 19.
