Caron Kicks Off NCAA Swimming Championships

AUSTIN, Texas - The 2011 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships began on Thursday at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Hannah Caron, a native of Raleigh, N.C., is competing on behalf of the University of Utah swimming team.
"What I'm most excited about is Hannah bringing this experience home and teaching our freshmen and sophomores what it is going to be like next year in the Pac-12," stated head coach Greg Winslow. "There's not a better ambassador for that than Hannah."
The junior, who holds the school record in the 200 IM, posted a time of 2:01.69 to place 46th in the event.
"Being at the fastest meet around the fastest swimmers in the world can be pretty intimidating," Winslow said. "That's just something we need to get used to and Hannah has gotten over it now."
Caron is one of the few Ute women in the program's history to have had the opportunity to race at the national championships.
Future Pac-12 opponents such as ASU, UC Berkeley, Stanford, and USC, which are also a few of the top ranked teams in the country, have student-athletes representing them at nationals as well.
"Here Hannah has the opportunity to see the competition for next year," stated Winslow. "It's valuable experience. Not too many teams are here as this is the very best in the world."
The 2011 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will continue through Friday and Saturday.
The 100 fly, the event in which Caron is ranked 31st in the country, will take place on Friday. The final event for Caron will be the 200 fly on Saturday.
