AUSTIN, Texas -- Hannah Caron of the University of Utah swimming team competed in her final event at the 2011 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center on Saturday afternoon.
"I'm really proud of Hannah and what she has done this week," said head coach Greg Winslow. "It shows a lot about Hannah's abilities in how she got better with each swim here."
Caron swam a lifetime best of 1.57.98 in the 200 fly to earn 29th place, the highest placement she has made at the NCAA's this year. Her time excels her previous personal best by half a second. It is also the second-fastest time ever by a Ute woman.
"This was a great experience and it was a lot of fun," said Caron. "I feel like I learned a lot. I can't wait to help get my teammates ready for next year."
The NCAA Swimming Championship is largely regarded as the fastest meet in the world, surpassing even the Olympics. This weekend, Caron had the opportunity to race against the top swimmers in the country including a few from future Pac-12 opponents such as USC, ASU, and UC Berkeley among others.
"Facing them made me a lot smarter as a swimmer," Caron said of her Pac-12 competitors. "I am even more ready to race them next year."
"To go from an okay 200 IM to a personal second-best time in the 100 fly and now a lifetime best in the 200 fly is rare," said Winslow. "She was only a half second off of scoring points for Utah. Posting a lifetime best on her last swim of the season was an amazing feat in itself."
The season for the Utah swimming and diving team comes to a close with Caron's experience at the 2011 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
Winslow stated that Caron competing and improving through the national championships is "a great way to end this season for the Ute program."
