DES MOINES, Iowa- After the first four events of the women's heptathlon, junior Brianna LeRoy holds the lead going into the second day of competition at Drake Relays. LeRoy's strong start in the 100m hurdles and high jump has earned her first place with 3,116 points at the conclusion of the first day.
"She had a really good start," said Utah associate head coach Burke Bockman. "For her to come out like she did in the hurdles, we knew it was going to be a good day."
LeRoy opened the day in the 100m hurdles and finished the race with a lifetime-best time of 14.29, which earned her 938 points. In the high jump, LeRoy continued her momentum claiming first place in the event with a jump of 5-7.75 (879 points). LeRoy tallied 531 points in the shot put with a throw of 32-10.50. "It is a great feeling to lead after day one, but our goal is to lead after the second day," stated Bockman. "We are looking forward to a great day tomorrow."
