SALT LAKE CITY- Four members of the University of Utah women's tennis team have been selected to compete in both singles and doubles at the 2011 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, Oct. 1-9, in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Senior Anastasia Putilina will make her third consecutive appearance at the tournament. Putilina and junior doubles partner Paige Miles will also compete in the doubles bracket. The duo of sophomore Sarah Pham and sophomore transfer Callie Craig were selected to compete in the prequalifying singles play and will team in the doubles portion as well.
"Having four players involved in the All-Americans is an accomplishment that has not happened here in a long time," said head coach Mat Iandolo. " I am looking forward to seeing how our young women will do at the premiere college tournament of the fall against the best competition in the country."
The prequalifying event, hosted by UCLA, will take place Oct. 1-2 at the Los Angeles Tennis Club. The qualifying draw (Oct. 4-5) and main draw (Oct. 6-9) will be held at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Last year at the 2010 All-American Championships Putilina reached the main draw consolation semifinals before falling to 15th-ranked Aeriel Ellis of Texas.
In 2009, Putilina participated in the first prequalifying round of event, becoming the first Ute selected to compete in the tournament since Liz Ferris in 2007. Ferris made three consecutive appearances in the tournament from 2005-07.
