BERKELEY, Calif. - Sophomore Erin Redd registered 10 kills and junior McKenzie Odale tallied 28 assists as the University of Utah volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-9, 25-20, 26-24) at top-ranked California in a Pac-12 match Saturday night at Haas Pavilion.
Utah (6-6, 1-2 Pac-12) was outhit .290 to .104 but outblocked the nation's top team, 9.0-7.0.
Redd hit a team-high 10 kills to go with a match-high six blocks, while Odale distributed 28 assists to go with four blocks
Morgan Odale contributed nine kills with five digs in two blocks during the match.
Freshman Chelsey Schofield posted a team-high 12 digs, while Nikki Sim also contributed double-digit digs with 10.
Schofield led the way in the first set with three kills, but Utah was limited to a .000 hitting percentage, compared to a .536 mark for California.
Utah was within three several times, the last coming at 23-20, but could not avoid a 25-20 second-set loss. Redd hit for four kills in the set, while McKenzie Odale had 12 assists.
After Utah fell behind 5-1 in the third set, California led 23-20 before Utah reeled off four consecutive points to assume its first lead of the set, 24-23. Unfortunately, Utah could not earn the win and lost the decisive set of the match, 26-24.
No. 1 California (13-0, 3-0 Pac-12) was led by Tarah Murrey's 17 kills, while Elly Barrett posted 39 assists and Robin Rostratter recorded 17 digs, all match highs.
The Utes return home Friday for their first-ever Pac-12 match at Crimson Court against Oregon State. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. MT and fans can either watch the match live at utahutes.com or follow the live stats at .
