Provo, Utah- In the first meet of the season, the University of Utah throws group dominated the day at the BYU Invitational. The Utes earned the top three spots in both the shot put and weight throw events.
"Today was a great day," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "We came ready to compete and looked comfortable throughout the whole day. It was fun to see them go out and show off their hard work with a dominating performance."
In the shot put, Utah claimed the top four spots. Sophomore Destanae Howerton-Davis set a new personal record with a first-place mark of 47-1.25. Nikkie Rudder finished second with a throw of 46-3.50. Candus Aiello (44-5.75) and Alanna Nulph (44-5.75) finished third and fourth, respectively for the Utes.
Rudder won the weight throw competition with a new personal-best mark of 54-11.75. Cynthia Sanchez claimed second overall with a throw of 53-05. Howerton-Davis rounded out the top-three finishers with a mark of 52-10.75.
The Utes will return to action on January 27 at the Boise State Open in Boise, Idaho.
