LAS VEGAS - The University of Utah women's tennis team's 13th-seeded redshirt junior Paige Miles and sophomore Tereza Bekerova captured the USTA/ITA Mountain Regional doubles title Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Third-seeded junior Sarah Pham upset UNLV's first-seeded No. 43 Lucia Batta in the semifinals, but fell to second-seeded No. 89 Aleksandra Josifoska in the singles final round.
Miles and Bekerova teamed up in the semifinals against UNLV's fourth-seeded Nives Pavlovic and Lucia Batta, downing the duo 8-4. Miles and Bekerova then returned in the doubles final round, capturing a triumphant 8-5 victory over Wyoming's first-seeded Veronica Popovici and Simona Synkova to clinch the title.
In the singles semifinal round, Pham clinched a crucial 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 upset over Batta to advance to the final round, where she suffered a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Josifoska.
The Utes return to action Nov. 9-11 at the Virginia Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
