In doubles play, Miles and Bekerova bested Michaela Bezdickova and Laura Richardson of New Mexico, 8-6, then battled South Carolina's Jaklin Alawi and Dominika Kanakova to a tight 9-8 victory to clinch the doubles championship.
Junior Lucia Kovarcikova and sophomore Natasha Smith fell to South Carolina's Adriana Pereira and Ximena Siles Luna, 8-2, then captured an 8-2 victory in consolation play against of Martina Trierweiler and Dariya Abdrakhmanova Texas El Paso.
Three individuals captured victories in singles play, setting up the Utes for a chance to win the Nos. 1-3 singles championship titles Sunday. Smith defeated Kelli Hine of Texas Tech, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, and faces Dominika Kanakova of South Carolina Sunday at 9 a.m. Kovarcikova routed Texas El Paso's Marie LeBlonde 6-1, 6-2, and takes on Ganna Tiurina of Western New Mexico Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Finally, Bekerova advanced due to her opponent, Katerina Popova of South Carolina, suffering an injury. She battles Michaela Bezdickova of New Mexico Sunday at 9 a.m.
