SALT LAKE CITY -10 different players found the scoring column as a well-balanced effort paced the Utah men's basketball team to an easy 72-38 win over the College of Idaho this evening.
Jordan Loveridge scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season, while Brandon Taylor scored a personal-best 14 points and Jason Washburn scored in double figures upon his return to the starting lineup.
Jarred DuBois finished with seven points, but had career-highs in rebounds (6) and assists (8). Renan Lenz had a career-high four rebounds and freshman Jeremy Olsen grabbed five rebounds in five minutes at the end of the game.
Utah never trailed the Coyotes, a NAIA team from the Cascadia Conference, connecting on 49 percent of its shot attempts. The Utes' held large advantages in second-chance points (11-0), bench points (35-8) and points in the paint (34-12).
The Utes stifled their opponents on defense, limiting them to 38 points on 23 percent shooting, 5-of-23 from beyond the arc. It was the lowest point total for a Utah opponent in almost four seasons (Air Force, 1/14/09).
An early 8-0 run featuring two three-pointers by Taylor pushed the lead to double figures for the first time, 24-12 with 8:09 remaining in the first half. Utah would push the lead to 18 before the 'Yotes hit a three-pointer to make it 30-15 with 5:16 on the clock.
The Runnin' Utes led at intermission 37-20 with Loveridge and Taylor both having scored eight points. Loveridge also grabbed seven rebounds in 16 first-half minutes.
In the second stanza, the Utes used a 12-1 run, seven coming from Loveridge, to push the lead to 28 with 13:08 left in the game. The College of Idaho would keep the deficit from reaching 30 until Olsen's layup with 4:29 remaining made it 67-36.
Utah opens Pac-12 play next week with a road trip to Arizona. The Utes battle Arizona State next Wednesday at 8 p.m. before taking on the No. 3 Wildcats on Saturday at 3 p.m.
