After bringing home three individual top-10 finishes at the Pac-12 Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships last week in Federal Way, Wash., Utah sophomore Traycie Swartz has earned the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championships March 15-17 in Auburn, Ala.
At the Pac-12 Championships, Swartz broke three Utah individual records, the100 free (48.70), 50 free (22.45) and 100 back (52.87), two of which she previously held (100 free and 100 back). Her time in the 100 back bests Utah's second-fastest 100 back stroker, Shannon McQueen (2006), by more than three seconds.
Swartz also assisted in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay at the championships. The Ute women earned the school record in the 200 free relay and narrowly missed the record in the 200 medley relay by .01 seconds.
Swartz is ranked 21st in the country in the 100 free, 22nd in the 50 free, and 32nd in the 100 back.
"We are very proud of what Traycie has done this year," said Utah head coach Greg Winslow. "She is the fastest swimmer in school history in all three of her events, but I know she has a lot more left. We stepped Traycie's training up this year with these championships being the goal, so I know it is going to be a fun show. NCAA's is going to be an exciting stage for Traycie to show off her talents and competitiveness."
