While the Utah men's basketball team prepares for the 2013-14 season, UtahUtes.com will spotlight its new members in a weekly segment, `Getting to Know U.'
Today's spotlight is on freshman guard Parker Van Dyke. Van Dyke was named the 4A Player of the Year by the Salt Lake Tribune after leading the state in scoring with 24.7 points per game. A first-team all-state selection by both the Deseret News and the Tribune, he also added 6.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals per contest.
What is your favorite sport besides basketball?
Baseball

Pete Maravich
What do you like to do when you are not playing basketball?
Hang out and rela with family and friends
Do you have a nickname?
PVD and Chard
Why did you choose Utah?
I grew up here and lived in SLC my whole life. I've always loved the Utes since I was little
Who had the biggest influence in your life?
My dad, because he's a hard worker and a great person
What is your favorite thing about Utah?
I grew up here. This is home
The teammate(s) I admire most are who, and why?
Kenneth Ogbe or Marko Kovacevic. For them to leave their homes and basically everything they know in order to play basktball, it's pretty inspiring
What do you like best about Coach Krystkowiak?
He's a great coach and really easy to talk to. He also understands the game really well and has helped me during this process of being a freshman.
What are your goals for this year?
I want to continue to improve and just get better. As for the team, I hope we can do well in the Pac-12 and make the NCAA Tournament. Also, beat BYU
What do you do on game day?
Shower
What do you want to do after you graduate?
Start a family. Play professionaly
What's your favorite food?
Steak
If you go anywhere on vacation where would it be?
New Zealand. They shoot all types of movies there and the scenery looks amazing
