SALT LAKE CITY - Three Utah skiers will participate at the World University Games, held in Trentino, Italy, from Dec. 11-21.
Women's alpine skiers Lauren Samuels and Jaime Dupratt will represent the USA in the downhill, giant slalom, slalom and super-G events. Men's Nordic skier Noé Bellet will ski for France in the 10 km free, sprint classic and the skiathlon, a combined 7.5 km classic and 7.5 km freestyle race.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for these athletes to gain more international experience and exposure," Utah Director of Skiing Kevin Sweeney said. "This is good preparation as we get ready to start our regular season in January."
Dupratt represented Utah at the NCAA Championships last season and was in the top 10 in seven races last season. Bellet, an alternate for the NCAA Championships, finished 10th or better in eight races in 2013. He was the March 4 RMISA Men's Nordic Skier of the Week after a pair of top 10's at the RMISA Championships. Samuels, in her first year at Utah, is a graduate of the Rowmark Ski Academy. She finished 10th in the super-G at the U.S. Alpine Championships last year.
