RMISA Giant Slalom Qualifier Results
BIG SKY, Mont. - Kristiina Rove tied for third in the women's giant slalom to lead the Utah ski team at the RMISA qualifier at Big Sky Resort on Friday.
Rove tied for third with New Mexico's Mateja Robnik with a time of 2:00.31. Chloe Fausa also finished in the top 10 with a sixth-place finish in 2:00.82. Ana Kobal crossed the line 15th (2:03.80) while Teagen Palmer was 20th (2:04.68). Lauren Samuels was 12th after her first run but did not finish her second run for the second-straight GS race, while Jaime Dupratt also did not finish.
Mark Engel led the men with an 11th-place finish with a time of 1:59.02. Joergen Brath was close behind in 13th (1:59.17) while Eian Sandvik finished 27th (2:01.44). Andy Trow did not finish his second run.
"It was a tough day out there today," Utah head alpine coach Jaka Korencan said. "Extreme weather made racing conditions extremely inconsistent. Kristiina and Chloe overcame adverse conditions really well and had two awesome runs. I'm really excited about how the whole women's team is skiing right now. On the men's side, it was really just not our day. From little mistakes costing us a lot of time to the strong winds slowing us down, it was simply just not our day. We just need to forget about it and move on. Tomorrow is a brand new day!"
The Montana State Invitational goes from Jan. 11-12. The nordic races will be held at the Bohart Ranch XC Ski Center, with the women's 5-km and men's 10-km classic races on Saturday and the women's and men's 10-km freestyle races on Sunday. In alpine, the giant slalom will he held Saturday and the slalom on Sunday at the Big Sky Resort.
