SALT LAKE CITY- The Utah women's swimming and diving team will head to Boise, Idaho this Wednesday, Oct. 8 to take on the Boise State Broncos. The dual-meet will be held at Boise West YMCA and will begin at 6 p.m. (MT).
"This has been a busy couple weeks for the women's team and that continues with a very tough battle against Boise State on Wednesday," said Utah head coach Joe Dykstra. "They are very talented and extremely well coached and I expect them to give us everything we can handle. It should be a great, close-fought college dual meet."
The women's team is coming off a pair of quad-dual meet victories at the Intermountain Shootout this weekend, with wins over Colorado Mesa (314-60) and BYU (291-83). Utah collected eight first-place finishes on Friday and followed up with top honors in 11 different events on Saturday.
All-American Stina Colleou highlighted the weekend with a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching in a time of 2:16.41. Following the altitude time adjustment, Colleou currently has the second fastest time in the nation with a time of 2:15.21, which qualifies as a NCAA Division I "2B" standard.
The Utes and Broncos met last season with the Utah coming away with the win by a count of 188-112. Utah won 13 events in the meet, including both relay events at Ute Natatorium.
The Broncos will be competing for the first time in the 2014-15 campaign on Wednesday. Boise State tallied a record of 4-3 in dual-meets last season and won the Mountain West Conference Championship. The Broncos had six competitors contend at the NCAA championships, with a pair of swimmers, Brittany Aoyama and Sam Wicks, finishing the season nationally ranked in their respective events.
Both Ute squads will take a three-week break following the Boise State meet and will return to competition Nov. 1, at Buchanan Natatorium in Las Vegas, Nev. The Utes will take on both Arizona and UNLV in the meet.
