- Complete Pac-12 Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Six University of Utah student-athletes were named to the Pac-12 Volleyball All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Senior libero Lea Adolph and senior right-side hitter Shelby Dalton were each named first-team selections, while senior middle blocker Bailey Bateman was tabbed a second-team pick. Junior setter Kendall Cygan, senior setter Kalee Kirby and senior outside hitter Chelsey Schofield-Olsen earned honorable mention accolades as well.
Adolph, who picked up the third Pac-12 all-academic honor of her career, earned first-team honors for a second consecutive season after posting a 3.32 dig-per-set average this season. She leads the team with 315 digs and is tied for first on the squad with 15 service aces as well. Her 985 career digs currently ranks ninth all-time in school history. The Waltrop, Germany native was named a Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District Second-Team selection earlier this month.
Dalton earned her third Pac-12 all-academic honor as well after being named to the second-team last season. She is second on the team with 292 kills (2.78/set) and has a team-high 12 solo blocks. A native of Moab, Dalton currently ranks seventh all-time in school history with 396 block assists and 11th all-time with 423 total blocks.
Bateman earned her third all-academic selection after she too was named to the second-team in 2013. A Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team selection earlier this month, Bateman leads the team with 118 total blocks and ranks sixth in the Pac-12 with a 1.13 blocks-per-set average. The Hooper native ranks fifth all-time with 449 block assists and she is eighth in school history with 470 career total blocks.
Cygan earned her second-straight honorable mention selection after recording 469 assists on the year, while averaging 5.04 assists-per-set. She has collected 1,790 assists in her career, which ranks ninth all-time in school history. Kirbee earned all-academic honors for the first time in her career and she currently has a team-high 613 assists on the season, while averaging 5.04 assists-per-set. She leads the team and ranks 10th in the Pac-12 with 10 double-doubles on the year. Schofield-Olsen, who earned honorable mention accolades for a third straight season, currently leads the team with 322 kills (3.01/set) and is second on the squad with 266 digs (2.49/set). She currently ranks first all-time in career attacks (4,099), third all-time in kills (1,333) and fourth all-time in digs (1,240). Earlier this season she became just the fourth player in school history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 and be either a starter or significant contributor.
The Utes, who rank No. 23 in the nation, will close out the regular-season this week with matches against No. 13 Oregon and No. 18 Colorado. The Utes will square-off with the Ducks at 7 p.m. this evening and will then face the Buffs this Friday at noon for Senior Day.
