LEXINGTON, Ky. - The 2014 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I All-Region awards were announced Tuesday and Utah senior middle blocker Bailey Bateman was named All-Pacific South Region Honorable Mention.
Bateman, who was named an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection just last week, finished the 2014 campaign with 217 kills and averaged 1.81 kills-per-set. She had a team-best hitting percentage of .329 on the season, which ranks ninth in the league aned 120th in the nation, while also ranking as the 10th-highest hitting percentage in single-season school history.
The Hooper, Utah, native led the Utes with 134 block assists and 140 total blocks this year, while ranking sixth in the Pac-12 and 89th in the nation with a 1.17 blocks-per-set average. Her 140 total blocks currently ranks fourth in the Pac-12 and 50th in the nation.
Bateman has earned several honors during her senior season with the Utes, having been named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 15), while also earning Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team honors and being named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team.
Bateman was instrumental in helping Utah finish the regular-season winning seven of its last eight matches - with victories over five ranked opponents - and earning an at-large bid into the NCAA Championship Tournament. Utah went on to defeat Kansas State in the first round of the tournament before falling to No. 11 Nebraska in the second round.
