EUGENE, Ore. - The Utah baseball team fell to 12th-ranked Oregon, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Utah took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. With two outs TJ Bennett was hit by a pitch. Wyler Smith hit an infield single and Bennett scored on a throwing error on the play.
Oregon came back in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead, stringing together three hits for two runs, including a double and an RBI triple.
After the early runs, both pitchers settled down and kept the offense off the bases. Zach Adams, in his first start of the season, pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
Utah stranded two on base after a pair of leadoff hits in the second inning. Biss Larsen was also left on base in the fifth inning after a leadoff single. The Utes had five total hits on the day and left four total runners on base.
Oregon increased its lead to 4-1 with two runs on three hits in the seventh inning.
Dylan Drachler pitched two innings for the Utes, surrendering two runs and three hits, striking out two.
