SALT LAKE CITY- Utah swimming and diving had 26 athletes named to the 2014 Pac-12 Swimming and Diving All-Academic teams today. Three men and two women earned first-team accolades, while five women and three men were named to the second team.
In order to be eligible for the academic team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, have a minimum of 3.0 overall grade point average and be a significant contributor in the pool.
For the men, sophomore trio Jacob Crayne (3.78/communications), David Fraser (3.73/business) and Josiah Purss (3.77/business) were all named to the first team. Caleb Herrick (3.40/health education), Bence Kiraly (3.50/business) and Kyle Owens (3.66/undeclared) were named second team all-academic. Herrick was also a second team selection last year.
On the women's side, earning first team honors was Ashlyn Karosas (3.78/exercise sport science) and Kersten Merry (3.68/communications). Merry is a two-time first-team selection. On the second team was Paolina Carnevale (3.40/business), Katie Morgan (3.50/exercise sport science), Petra Soininen (3.60/biology), Traycie Swartz (3.50/parks, recreation and tourism) and Sami Zuch (3.40/parks, recreation and tourism). Both Swartz and Zuch earned honorable mention honors last year.
Earning honorable mention honors for the men was Alex Brown, Graham Charlton, Alex Fernandes, Jonas Holmstrom, Kristian Kron and Brandon Young. Charlton earned honorable mention last year as well. For the women, Sydney Bull, Nicole Ligeza, Maryssa McArthur, Maudee Miner, Melissa Paahk and Treasa Ring each earned All-Academic honorable mention.
