SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah swimming and diving team had 18 student-athletes honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America as Individual Scholar All-Americans on Monday. Eight were named to the first team.
Earning first-team honors for the men was Bence Kiraly, Kristian Kron, Josiah Purss and Nick Soedel. Six secured honorable mention recognition: Karson Applin, Jacob Crayne, Andy Cunningham, Keanu Interone, Nolan Rogers and Ken Tiltges.
The women also had four student-athletes honored on the first team: Nicole Ligeza, Kersten Merry, Traycie Swartz and Samantha Zuch. Amanda Barrett, Amanda Casillas, Maryssa McArthur and Petra Soininen were named honorable mention.
The Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a cumulative or term grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the academic term coinciding with the NCAA Championship, and competed at the NCAA Championship. To earn honorable mention honors, swimmers much have achieved a 'B' time standard during the season, but did not compete at the national championship, while divers qualify by competing at the Zone Diving Championship.
Both the Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams were selected as Scholar All-America Teams by the CSCAA last week.
