UTAH vs. TEXAS TECH QUOTES
Utah 73, Texas Tech 63
Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak
Opening Statement…
"I just thought it was maybe two different halves. I think we got outrebounded by seven or eight in the first half and we ended up outrebounding them by seven for the game. There were obviously a lot of missed shots, neither team shot the ball that well percentage-wise and I think that was the difference in the second half, making a concerted effort to collectively rebound and limit them to one shot. That was really big."
On Lorenzo Bonam being more aggressive…
"I've expected that not just in this game but in fairness to him, and we've had some nice little meetings as of late, he's thinking about a lot of things. It's not easy. If you bring up another player on our team it's Delon, who's been in that situation and there was a tendency with Delong Wright that we got spoiled. He arrived as a junior college player and was ready to do some things right out of the gate. It's really abnormal. It's not normal for juco guys to be able to jump in and play at this level.
On not shooting well so far this season…
"When you look back on it maybe it's been a little bit of a slow start but this being our third game of the season, I know from what he told me on the plane he's not thinking as much anymore. We've thrown a lot at him. There's a lot of concepts and different things and maybe his mind's clearing up a little bit. When you get going in the full court he's a nice weapon to have. He's quick and can finish at the rim. It was a nice weapon for us."
On what he talked about to his team at halftime…
"I actually challenged the guys (at halftime). I think there's a perception out there maybe that the Big 12 is a real physical league and maybe the Pac-12's not and it looked like that in the first half. We ended up on our backs a lot of times laying on the ground pointing fingers at each other telling each other to block out and they definitely won the war in the trenches in the first half. We had to play more physical to have a chance to win that game."
Senior Brandon Taylor
"Our intensity just picked up and we got down into it defnesinvely and we tried to slow down a little bit on offense and really just capitalize and hold onto the basketball as much as we could. We dialed in defensively and offensively."
