SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Utah volleyball team had four student-athletes named to the Pac-12 Volleyball All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Redshirt freshman Jessie Jorgensen was named a first team selection and sophomore Eliza Katoa was tabbed a second-team honoree, while senior Kendall Cygan and sophomore Adora Anae were both named honorable mention selections. For Cygan, this is her third Pac-12 All-Academic honor, while Jorgensen, Katoa and Anae were each honored for the first time.
Jorgensen has posted a team-high 647 assists and a 5.83 assists per set average on the season. She ranks second on the team with 19 service aces and has also collected 223 digs on the season. Jorgensen set new single-match career-highs in kills (4), assists (54), digs (16) and total blocks (2) this season. She is second on the team with nine double-doubles.
Katoa has tallied 254 kills on the season, which ranks second on the team, and has 2.47 kills per set. She has also recorded 115 digs and 54 total blocks. Katoa set new single-match career-highs this season in kills (17), digs (16) and total blocks (6), while also posting her first-ever double-double.
Cygan earned her third straight honorable mention selection after recording 522 assists and a 5.02 assists per set average. She collected eight double-doubles on the season and has tallied a total of 26 double-doubles in her four-year career with the Utes. Cygan became just the seventh player in school history to record 2,000 career assists and currently ranks No. 6 all-time with 2,386 assists in her four seasons. She tallied single-match career-highs in kills (3) and digs (22) this season.
Anae set the new school record for kills in a single-match during the rally-scoring era, posting 28 kills on two separate occasions earlier this season. She has tallied a school record 20+ kills in 10 different matches this season and heads into the final week of play with team-highs in both kills (469) and digs (369). She currently ranks No. 2 for kills in a single season during the rally-scoring era and No. 3 all-time. Anae posted a Pac-12 best 18 double-doubles in 2015 and has 22 double-doubles through her first two season at Utah.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 and be either a starter or significant contributor.
The Utes will close out the regular-season this week with matches against No. 2 Washington and Colorado. The Utes will square-off with the Huskies at 4 p.m. this afternoon before closing out the regular-season against the Buffs in Boulder on Friday at noon.
