SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Utah baseball team fell to Sacramento State, 10-3, on Saturday afternoon to even the four-game series at 1-1.

Cody Scaggari, Dallas Carroll and AJ Young each had two hits for the Utes on the day. Carroll drove in two of Utah's three runs.

Brock Duke, who was returned to the mound after spending most of the past two years sidelined after Tommy John surgery, pitched four innings, allowing five runs on six hits with three strikeouts and earned the loss. Tanner Thomas made his career debut, allowing five runs on two hits over 2/3 of an inning. Trenton Stoltz, who also made his first career appearance, was strong over 2 2/3 innings, allowing no runs and two hits with two strikeouts. Hunter Rodriguez struck out both batters he faced in the eighth.

The Utes fell behind early, with Sacramento State scoring two runs in the first inning, one run in the third, two runs in the fourth and breaking the game open with a five-run fifth.

Utah got on the board in the sixth inning. Davis led off the inning with a walk and back-to-back hits from Scaggari and Carroll led to a run. Scaggari also scored on a sacrifice fly from Hunter Simmons, putting the Sac State lead at 10-2.

The Utes added a run in the eighth, with Carroll following a Scaggari triple with an RBI single.

In addition to Thomas and Stoltz, other players who made their first career appearance were Kellen Marruffo, Andre Jackson, Connor Caspersen and Cole Taylor.
