SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah women's swimming team came away with a win against the Oregon State Beavers this Friday at the Ute Natatorium, 141-115.
"I thought it was good. We hadn't won a women's meet in a while. We have been on a skid," said Utah head coach Joe Dykstra. "It was nice only to get a win but to have a real comfortable win where we were able to exhibition some events and really feel good about ourselves. The performance were kind of a mix-meg, kind of so-so. I knew going it was going to be tough for the girls to get up for this meet with the looming BYU meet tomorrow. Tomorrow is such a big deal with such a huge crowd. I knew it was going to be tough to get up for this but they did a good job. We raced hard, we were enthusiastic and came out with a conference win."
To open up the meet with a win the 200 medley relay as the team of Megan Kawaguchi, Stina Colleou, Melissa Paakh and Maddie Jamora touched in first-place with a time 1:44.84. Following in second was team of Shayla Archer, Brianna Francis, Petra Soininen and Giuliana Gigliotti (1:46.09).
Kawaguchi also had a first place finish in the 100 back with a time of 56.47.
