SALT LAKE CITY- Utah women's swimming and diving heads to the NCAA Women's Championships this Thursday, March 19, through Saturday, March 21, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. Utah will be represented individually by Stina Colleou, Giuliana Gigliotti and diver Jasmine Matkovic.
Sophomore Colleou will swim in the 200 breast. Her time of 2:10.61 is the 30th fastest time in the nation. She finished sixth at the 2015 Pac-12 Championships. Colleou currently holds the school record in the event (2:08.35) which was set at last year's NCAA Championships. She competed in the 200 breast last year taking ninth and was the fastest freshman in the event.
Senior Gigliotti will be swimming in two events, the 50 free and 100 free. At the 2015 Pac-12 Championships, she took seventh in the 50 free, where she recorded her personal-best and Utah's second-fastest mark all-time of 22.28. This time is the 30th fastest time in the nation. In the 100 free, she recorded her season-best in the preliminaries at the Pac-12's with a time of 48.88. In the finals, she took seventh.
Senior diver Matkovic qualified on the platform event. She took seventh on platform with a total score of 492.85 at the 2015 NCAA Zone Championships. This will be her first appearance at the NCAA's.
"Obviously, this is a great opportunity for Jasmine to close out her diving career here at one of the best meets in the world," said Utah head diving coach Richard Marschner. "I'm looking forward to seeing her compete and enjoy the atmosphere of this competition. She has worked incredibly hard to reach this point and it will be fun to see her get the chance to really celebrate her hard work paying off."
ESPN3 will stream the championship finals on Friday and Saturday. All other sessions will be streaming through GoPack.com.
