DES MOINES, Iowa- The University of Utah women's track and field team capped off a great weekend at the Drake Relays. The Utes competed in two events on the final day of action, including a top-ten finish in the distance medley.Â
Getting the action underway for the Utes was the distance medley relay team, who earned Utah its second top-ten performance of the weekend. The relay comprised of Sarah Feeny, Alissa Atisme, Grace Englund and Hannah McInturff clocked a time of 3:53.61 to claim ninth overall.Â
"Sarah Feeny ran a great leadoff leg," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "She had a great, patient kick down the home stretch past several people. Alissa then ran lights out in a terrific leg. Grace continues to learn how to run the 800. She has really improved and become more consistent at that distance. I am most pleased with how they competed. I thought that they competed on every leg and really fought to get every spot that they could get. Having another top-ten relay at Drake is always a great thing, especially since five of the eight girls we brought competed for the first time at this meet."Â
Atisme then teamed up with Grace Englund, Christine Van Brocklin, and Allison Aafedt to represent Utah in the sprint medley, where they recorded a 22nd-place time of 4:08.47.Â
"I thought that our first two legs really ran great," Kepler said. "It unfortunately didn't go very well after that. We didn't perform at the level we needed to perform to be as competitive as we would of liked to be. It is unfortunately not a relay that we will run again this year, but we need to make sure that the effort level is where it needs to be."Â
At the BYU Robison Invitational, the Utes had three athletes record impressive performances.Â
Representing the Utah in the javelin was sophomore Megan Glasmann. On her last throw of the day, Glasmann recoreded a throw measuring 166 feet, 5.75 inches to capture the event title with ease, surpassing the closest competitor by nearly 20 feet.Â
The 800-meter run featured sophomore Makenzie Clark posting a time of 2:14.87 to capture fourth overall.Â
In the 400-meter hurdle finals, true freshman Madison Lanford nearly recorded a new personal-best time after posting a time of 1:04.34 to place seventh overall.Â
The Utes will split up next week with a majority of the team traveling to Boise, Idaho to compete at the Idaho-Utah Border Clash. The Utes will also send a few throwers to Austin, Texas to compete at the Texas Invitational and some of the distance athletes will compete in Calif. at the Payton Jordan Invitational.
