SEATTLE - Kody Davis hit his third home run of the season as the Utah baseball team fell to the Huskies, 6-2 on Friday evening to open a three-game series in Seattle.
Washington broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run fifth inning.
Utah was led at the plate by Cody Scaggari, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Kody Davis and Wade Gulden each had two hits, with Davis hitting both a home run and a double.
Bret Helton pitched six innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. He falls to 2-8 with the loss. Nolan Stouder pitched the final two innings, allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts.
Davis led off the game with a solo home run to left field.
The Utes took a 2-0 lead with a run in the third inning. A one-out single from Gulden and double from Davis put runners on second and third, leading to a run on a ground out.
Washington got on the board in the third inning after a leadoff double led to a run with an RBI single. The Huskies tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth with a solo home run in the top of the fourth.
Washington took the lead with a three-run fifth inning, stringing together three runs on three hits with a walk and a passed ball, with all three runs scoring with two outs.
Utah put two on with one out in the sixth inning after Scaggari led off the inning with a single and AJ Young walked, but Washington got out of the inning with a double play.
Helton forced the Huskies into leading the bases loaded in the sixth, and Washington stranded two on in the seventh. The home team added an insurance run in the eighth after a pair of doubles, taking a 6-2 lead.
Utah and Washington play game two of the series on Saturday, May 23, at 7:00 p.m. PT. The game will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.
