SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 23-ranked Utah women's cross country team heads to one of the nation's premier collegiate meets, the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational this Friday, Oct. 14. The six-kilometer race will be held at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course located next to the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis. There will be two races on Friday, including the championship race beginning at 12:30 p.m. CT and an open race to begin at 11:00 a.m.
"It will be probably one of the best meets other than the national meet or our conference meet all year," head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "Huge competition and a chance for us to find out where we really stand with the best teams in the country as well as a lot of the teams who are in our ballpark in that 20
th to 30
th-ranked group."

SCOUTING THE FIELD
In a tough field of 31 teams, Utah runners will compete against 13 of the top-25 teams in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Coaches Poll. Notable teams competing on Friday include No.1 Providence, No. 3 NC State, No. 4 Washington, and No.6 Michigan State. A full list of teams competing can be found on the PDF attached to the release.
"This is our first ever trip to the University of Wisconsin for cross country and this particular meet. That was due in part thanks to our qualification to the NCAA Championships last year. They invite those teams and then go down the list of the teams that just missed and put together just an outstanding field to go against each other," Kepler explained.
UTES JUMP IN THE POLLS
In the latest national poll released by the USTFCCCA on Oct.4, the Utes moved five spots up in the rankings and are ranked No. 23 for Week 4. Utah is also ranked fourth in the mountain region behind second-ranked New Mexico and third-ranked BYU, who are also competing at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.
LAST TIME OUT
The Utes placed sixth at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational in a field that included three of the top-five nationally ranked teams. Murphy and Slotboom recorded top-25 finishes placing in 19
th and 21
st, respectively.
"Certainly Notre Dame two weeks ago was a great tune-up for this, but this will be our first real challenge against so many quality teams and we will see where we fall," Kepler stated.
