Utah Divers Give Back for Thanksgiving

Utes volunteer at SLC Mission over holiday
SALT LAKE CITY - Over this Thanksgiving holiday, the Utah diving team volunteered its time and support to the Salt Lake City Mission.
"It was great to have the opportunity to get out and serve people less fortunate than us today," Josiah Purss stated. "Thanksgiving is about being grateful for all that you have and there is no better way to show your appreciation and thankfulness than serving others."
Along with coach Richard Marschner, the Utah divers were among the many volunteers at the Christian Life Center for the annual Thanksgiving meal that helped feed about 4,000 people.
"It was a very rewarding experience and I really enjoyed spending time giving back to the community," Amanda Casillas added.
Crowded around white plastic tables, guests were served plates full of turkey, potatoes, pie and even nachos as music played in the background. All the food was donated, volunteers cooked it and people who don't have transportation are bused in from around the city.Attendees were not just served food: they could get haircuts, have their pick of donated clothes piled high on tables along one wall and even get their faces painted. Volunteers also walked from table to table offering clean socks and hygiene kits

"It was great to be able to serve those who need it most on a day like today," Marschner said. "It really puts things into perspective about how well we have it in life and helps us to truly appreciate all the privileges we are afforded in our lives. A big thanks to the Salt Lake City Mission for putting this together and allowing us to be a part of it."
