SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- No. 51 Utah picked up its second straight win to start the spring season by a 4-3 score over No. 59 UC Santa Barbara.
The doubles tandem of Taylor Calton and Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa began the day with a 6-2 doubles win over UCSB's Jaimee Gilbertson and Melissa Baker. Sarah Richter and Alexia Petrovic clinched the point with a 7-6 (7-5) win over Amanda Atanasson and Lou Adler. In the third match, Margo Pletcher and Brianna Turley lost a tough 7-6 (7-5) decision to #27 Stefani Stojic and Palina Dubavets.
To start the singles matches, Turley lost 6-2, 6-1 to Adler.
Calton lost to Atanasson 6-3, 6-2 win in No. 5 singles.
Over on court two, Richter took a 6-2, 6-4 win over Dubavets to tie the match at two for each side.
Petrovic put the Utes up 3-2 with her 6-0, 6-3 win over Yamada on court six to give the Utes a 3-2 edge.
Gilbertson defeated Cheng lost a 6-1, 6-4 match to Gilbertson that tied the match at 3-3.
Pletcher clinched the match with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Stojic.
The Utes will stay in Santa Barbara, Calif., to face Oklahoma on Sunday.
