Flagstaff, Ariz.- After the first day of competition at the NCAA Zones, Jacob Crayne and Josiah Purss both qualified on the three-meter event for the NCAA Championships.
"That was the best day of diving I've seen out of us as a whole," said Utah head diving coach Richard Marschner. "Josiah and Jake were on fire and kept feeding off of each other trying to outdo the other. It was a lot of fun to watch and this leads us into tomorrow with a lot of confidence and momentum. They can relax and just dive loose knowing they've already punched their tickets to NCAAs. Connor had a great meet by getting into finals and putting himself on the map for future years."
Crayne took first in the three-meter event with total score of 821.85. His teammate, Purss, followed in second with a total score of 804.75. Connor Cain took 17th (634.75) among 25 divers in the events.
"Amanda and Lauren had really good meets and just missed out on moving on to finals. I'm really happy with how they competed and they have a great three meter event tomorrow to look forward to," Marschner added.
Amanda Casillas was 20th in the one-meter event coming away with a total score of 258.55. Lauren Hall was 36th (244.60) in the 58- diver field.
Competition continues tomorrow with the prelims for the women's three-meter beginning at 11 a.m. and the finals scheduled for 2:35 p.m. Prelims for the men's one-meter will begin at 5:35 p.m. with finals at 7:20 p.m.
