SALT LAKE CITY - Utah sophomore forward Jakob Poeltl has been named a USA TODAY First Team All-American selection, it was announced on Monday.
Poeltl, who was named an All-Pac-12 First Team selection earlier on Monday, has nearly doubled his output from last season, averaging 17.5 points to go along with 9.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game.
The Vienna, Austria native led the Pac-12 and ranked fourth in the nation with a .660 field goal shooting percentage, while ranking among the top-50 players in the nation in total rebounds, total field goals made and double-doubles.
Poeltl, who is a finalist for the Wooden, Naismith, Robertson and Abdul-Jabbar awards, joins Oklahoma's Buddy Hield, North Carolina's Brice Johnson, Kentucky's Tyler Ulis and Michigan State's Denzel Valentine on the first team.
