SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's tennis team falls to 1-7 in Pac-12 conference play after dropping a decision to No. 20 UCLA at the Eccles Tennis Center on Sunday.
Catherine Harrison and Kristin Wiley defeated sophomore Margo Pletcher and freshmen Brianna Turley 6-4 to start the day. The doubles point was clinched by UCLA's Kyle McPhillips and Terri Fleming with a 6-4 victory over senior Sarah Richter and sophomore Alexia Petrovic.
Petrovic tied the match at 1-1 with a goose egg win over Laura Luca.
Ute freshmen Taylor Calton gave the Utes the lead with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Wiley.
After winning the first set 6-1, sophomore Jena Cheng dropped the next two sets 6-0, 6-0 and the Bruins tied it up 2-2.
Harrison beat Pletcher 6-2, 6-3 to help UCLA gain the lead 3-2.
Richter dropped the first set to McPhillips 6-2, but forced a third set with a 6-2 second set victory. The third set was a battle with games being traded back and forth with Richter trying to keep the match alive. She fell short and dropped the third set 7-5.
Turley's match was called early after UCLA clinched the match.
This was the Utes last home match of the season, but they will head to Oregon and face the No. 38 ranked Ducks in Eugene at 11 a.m. PT.
