BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. – The Utah men's golf team sits in fifth place following the first round at the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational. The second round of action began late Monday afternoon and due to darkness, second-round play was suspended and will pick back up Tuesday morning at the Pete Dye Golf Club.
Utah finished the first round with a score of 5-over par (293). Rutgers University leads the 16-team field, currently sitting in first place with a score of 6-under par (282). Ahead of the Utes in the team standings are Bowling Green State (+2), West Virginia (+3), and University of Akron (+4), which rounds out the top-five teams following the first round of play.
Sophomore
Jordan Costello led the Ute golfers in the first round carding a score of 2-under par (70) to sit in a tie for third place.
Sophomore
Mitchell Schow went into the second round with a first-round score of 1-over par (73) to sit in a tie for 17
th place.
Freshmen
Tristan Mandur and
Blake Tomlinson finished the first round in a tie for 32
nd place after registering 3-over par (75) on Monday. Junior
Kyler Dunkle rounded out the Utes in the first round, recording a score of 4-over par (76) to sit in a tie for 42
nd place.
Utah will resume second-round action at the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational beginning Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. ET with the third round to follow.
