SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah women's tennis fell to the No. 8 Stanford Cardinal in a 6-1 decision at home.

Margo Pletcher and
Brianna Turley was tough, but I am so proud of Alexia's performance," head coach
Mat Iandolo said. "She got a great win at the No. 1 position against the defending National Champions."
To start off the day, the Utes faced three tough doubles matches.
Taylor Calton and
Jena Cheng pulled ahead early for a 4-1 lead over Caroline Doyle and Melissa Lord in the No. 1 spot before Doyle and Lord came back to tie the match at 5-5.
Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa and
Alexia Petrovic came back to take the lead over Emily Arbuthnott and Taylor Davidson, 3-2 in the No. 2 spot, but Arbuthnott and Davidson clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win. Calton and Cheng had regained the lead, 6-5 when Stanford won the doubles point.
In singles competition, Petrovic pulled out a difficult three-set win in the No. 1 spot over Caroline Doyle with a ten-point tie breaker, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8. Gerstner Da Rosa and
Victoria Robertson both fought hard in close matches, but Stanford gained momentum and clinched five of the six singles matches.
The Utes will be back at the Eccles Tennis Center on Sunday to face the No. 14 California Golden Bears in a Pac-12 matchup.
