FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -Josiah Purss qualified for the NCAA Championships in the one-meter after the first night of the Zone E Diving Championships at Northern Arizona University.
"It was a great start to our zone meet as everyone competed really well and kept themselves in contention the entire time," said Utah head diving coach Richard Marschner. "Josiah got the job done and qualified for NCAA's for his fourth time in his career. He's been an amazingly consistent diver and it's a great achievement for him. Connor had a strong showing as well and looks good for the future."
The senior from Australia placed fifth in the one-meter with a score of 648.55 after finishing second last year. Connor Cain had his best finish at the event, placing 13th with a score of 585.20.
In the women's three-meter event, Amanda Casillas qualified for the finals but placed 16th with a scored of 564.30. Lauren Hall placed 22nd overall.
"Amanda did great to make finals and was just outside the provisional qualifying spot. I'm really happy with Lauren as she just missed the finals and did the best 205c she's ever done."
The Zone E Diving Championships continue tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the women's one-meter prelims starting at 11 a.m. followed by the finals at 2:35 p.m. The men's three-meter events start at 5:35 p.m with the finals at 7:20 p.m.
