Flagstaff, Ariz.- After the second day of competition at the NCAA Zones, seniors
Josiah Purss and
Amanda Casillas both qualified for the NCAA Championships.
"We had an even better day performance than yesterday as Amanda punched her ticket to NCAA's by finishing her one-meter with the best double twister she's ever done," said Utah head diving coach
Richard Marschner. "It was an incredibly intense and close competition all the way through with no room for error. Lauren had her best one-meter event of the season and I'm incredibly proud of her overall meet."
Casillas took ninth in the finals for the one-meter event tallying a total score of 560.40. This was a marked improvement from last season when she finished 20th overall.
Lauren Hall was 22nd overall (251.65) after placing 36th a season ago
Purss qualified for NCAA's on the one-meter yesterday and placed sixth on the three-meter today with a total score of 700.10. In the prelims, he was first with a score of 385.20.
Connor Cain was 15th in the event (596.55) with
Daniel Theriault taking 22nd (241.50).
"Josiah earned a spot to compete at NCAA's on three-meter and he had a great prelim dive winning the round. Daniel put forth a brave effort to dive only three weeks removed from having a metal plate inserted in his broken hand."
Competition continues tomorrow with both the men's and women's platform events. Women's prelims is set to begin at 11 a.m. with finals at 1:35 p.m. The men will begin at 3:50 p.m. and finals will begin at 5:35 p.m.
