LOS ANGELES – The University of Utah women's tennis team fell to No. 40 USC on the road, losing 7-0. The Utes dropped to 7-7 overall and 2-5 in Pac-12 play.
The Utes faced tough competition against three nationally-ranked Trojan doubles teams to start the match. The Utes lost the doubles point after Brianna and
Whitney Turley lost to No. 38-ranked Zoë Katz and Gabby Smith, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot and
Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa and
Alexia Petrovic fell to No. 61 Angela Kulikov and Madison Westby, 6-2.
Following doubles play, the Utes dropped six singles matches to the Trojans. No. 44 Jessica Failla edged
Margo Pletcher, 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot while
Brianna Turley and
Jena Cheng also fell to ranked opponents. Turley was defeated by No. 20 Gabby Smith, 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot and Cheng lost to No. 110 Zoë Katz, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 4 spot.
The Utes will be back in action Saturday at 1:30 p.m. MT with a dual match at No. 20 UCLA.
