Freshman earns second team honors and named to all-freshman team
SAN FRANCISCO – Utah freshman Dani Barton earned a pair of Pac-12 beach volleyball honors, the league office announced on Thursday.
Â
Barton earned Second Team All-Pac-12 accolades and was also named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team.
Â
Barton registered six wins on the season and played a key role in Utah's first-ever beach volleyball season. Barton and fellow freshman Bailey Choy recorded the squad's first pairs win, collecting a 2-0 victory over Stanford's Payton Chang and Ivan Vanjak (21-19, 21-16) in the season-opener.
Â
Midway through the first weekend of the season, Barton was then teamed up with junior Adora Anae and the duo was victorious in their first match together, downing San Francisco's Camille Araujo and Nora Buvarp Lavik in straight sets (21-19, 21-11). The Utes would go onto register its first-ever team win with a score of 5-0 over the Dons.
Â
Barton helped Utah record another first later in the season, teaming up with Anae in the Pac-12 Championships and guiding the Utes to a 3-2 win over Oregon in the squad's very first postseason duel. Barton and Anae recorded a win as a pair in the match, downing Oregon's Lindsey Vander Weide and Brooke Van Sickie (13-21, 21-19, 18-16).
Â
Barton was 6-8 overall on the season, going 3-0 with Choy and 3-8 with Anae. Her six wins led the team on the season.
