Norfolk, Va. – The College Swimming Coaches Association of America honored both of Utah's teams for academic success and named 21 student-athletes as Scholar All-Americans this morning Â

CSCAA Executive Director Joel Shinofield cited Utah's success in saying, "Coach
Joe Dykstra is building a model of success in the pool and classroom at Utah. We are very fortunate to have schools like Utah and people like President Pershing and Director of Athletics Chris Hill who support these exceptional student-athletes."

The Utah women's team had a 3.28 grade point average during the 2017 spring semester while the men's team had a 3.17 GPA, the third-highest mark in the Pac-12.
This was the eighth-straight semester that the women's team had been honored for an outstanding team GPA as 13 student-athletes received individual recognition, third-most among Pac-12 schools. Stina Colleou was named to the First Team for a third year in a row while diver Amanda Casillas earned a CSCAA award for a fourth-straight season (2x 1
st Team, 2x HM).
Jenna Marsh was tabbed as an honorable mention selection for a second time and was joined by fellow Utes Mallori Allen, Shayla Archer, Dorien Butter, McKenna Gassaway, Lauren Hall, Isabella Kearns, Sarah Lott, Christina Pick, Cassidy Stein and Darby Wayner.
The men's team had eight honorees, second-most among Pac-12 schools. Diver Josiah Purss garnered First Team honors for a second year in a row and was the only Ute on the men's side to earn a spot on the top tier.
Ben Scott received honorable mention status for a third year in a row while Daniel Theriault was recognized for a second-straight season. Cole Avery, Rahiti De Vos, McKay King, Brody Lewis and Matteo Sogne were all acknowledged for the first time.
To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective diving qualifying meetsÂ
For the first time in the 95-year history of the CSCAA more than 700 teams have received Scholar All-America recognition. In total, 720 teams, representing 443 institutions achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2017 spring semester.Â
