Golf in 10th Place Following First Round of 2017-18 Season

Utes combine to card 4-over par in season-opening round
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Utah men's golf team is in a tie for 10th place following first-round play at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, which is being held at Eisenhower Golf Club in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The Utes registered a first-round score of 4-over par (292) at the par-72, 7,511-yard Blue Course. Utah is currently tied with both Utah Valley and Utah State. Colorado State (-6) leads the three-day tournament, while both Colorado (-40 and Wyoming (-4) are in a two-way tie for second place. UTEP (-3) and No. 12-ranked UNLV (-2) rounded out the top-five teams on Friday. There are a total of 19 teams in the field this week.
"It was not our best day," said Utah head coach Garrett Clegg. "We really struggled on par-fives all day. If we can get that corrected tomorrow, we will be fine. There are still 36 holes remaining and we have a lot of firepower on this team. We just need to clean a few things up heading into tomorrow's round."
Junior Kyler Dunkle recorded Utah's only sub-par round of the day, posting a score of 1-under par (71) on the day. He currently sits in a tie for 16th place overall in a field of 111 players. Freshman Blake Tomlinson and sophomore Jordan Costello both carded rounds of 1-over par (73) on the day and are in a tie for 38th place.
Sophomore Mitchell Schow and freshman Tristan Mandur rounded out Utah's scoring on the day, as both players recorded rounds of 3-over par (75). They are in a tie for 65th place overall.
Four players are tied atop the individual leader board after one round of play with Colorado's Yannik Paul, Northern Colorado's Andrew Romano, USU's Andy Hess and Wyoming's John Murdock all tied for the lead after carding rounds of 5-under par (67).
