SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Diving made it a clean sweep to start the 2018 Desert First Duel on Friday evening vs. BYU.
Clare Greenlow and
Nathan Makarewicz each took the top spot in their respective events with swimming action starting tomorrow morning.
Greenlow won the women's one-meter with a score of 272.40 after finishing 13
th at the highly competitive UCLA Diving Invitational two weeks ago. Coming off a win in the event vs. Denver,
Emma Ruchala placed third, while
Makenzie Caufield was fifth (231.38).
After winning the one and three-meter events last weekend vs. Denver, Makarewicz captured the three-meter event this evening with a score of 315.98. Teammate
Daniel Theriault was the runner-up (302.48) and freshman
Jenner Pennock placed fifth (297.68)
"It was great to sweep the boards tonight to give our swimmers a little head start for tomorrow," head diving coach
Richard Marschner said. "The meet with BYU is always a very intense competition so I am really happy with how the freshmen handled themselves and performed in this environment. Nathan got a win in his final home meet and we are excited for tomorrow's events."
The Utes are back in the pool at 11 a.m. vs. the Cougars with the winner garnering more points for its school in the 2017-18 Desert First Duel standings.
