HARTFORD, Wis. – Battling rainy conditions throughout the second round of play, the Utah men's golf team struggled on day two of the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills and will head into the final round on Tuesday tied for sixth place at the Erin Hills Golf Course in Hartford, Wis.
Utah posted a second-round score of 20-over par (308) on Monday to have a combined score of 24-over par (292-308=600), which puts the Utes tied with Minnesota in sixth place.
Leading the now 10-team field after Iowa became disqualified after only having three available players for tomorrow, Arizona State leads all teams at a combined score of 2-over par. Northwestern (+6) is in second place, Marquette (+15) is in third, while Ole Miss (+18) and UC Davis (+19) sit in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
"The weather was definitely tough to play in today but everyone had to deal with it," said head coach Garrett Clegg. "We did not execute today and it was a disappointing day for our team. We know we can play better golf and expect more out of ourselves. We have one more round left and I am looking forward to what we will bring to the course tomorrow."
Junior Jordan Costello is tied for 25th place with a combined score of 5-over par (149). Costello carded 4-over par (76) in the second round of action. Behind Costello, sophomore Tristan Mandur is tied for 33rd place at 7-over par (151) for the two rounds after shooting 7-over par (79) on Monday.
Sophomore Blake Tomlinson went 5-over par (77) during the second round of action and will head into Tuesday's final round tied for 37th place at 8-over par (152). Senior Kyler Dunkle and junior Mitchell Schow are tied for 48th place, each having two-day scores of 10-over par (154). Dunkle shot 4-over par (76), while Schow went 10-over par (82).
Competing as an individual, freshman Axel Einarsson registered a second-round 2-over par (74). Einarsson is tied for 57th place at 12-over par (156).
Utah will tee off the No. 10 hole to begin the final round. Paired with Michigan State and McNeese State, Schow will be the first Ute to tee off at approximately 8:30 a.m. CT with the rest of Utah's five-man team to follow. Live scoring for the final round is available at GolfStat.com.
