SALT LAKE CITY – A fun and intense Red/White scrimmage for the Utah lacrosse team saw White come away with the 14-13 overtime victory.
Red held a slim 4-3 lead at halftime. With the game tied 6-6, Red scored back-to-back goals for an 8-6 lead at the end of the third quarter and opened the fourth quarter with two goals for a 10-6 lead. White would score five of the next six goals to tie the game at 11-11. Red broke the tie with just over a minute remaining and quickly followed with a second goal for a 13-11 lead before White came back with two goals of its own, the game-tying goal coming with seven seconds left. The teams combined for 12 goals in the fourth quarter.
Although Red had an early possession in the overtime period, White took advantage of a turnover leading to the game-winning goal.
"The blessing of the whole day was being out here with an unbelievable crowd," head coach
Brian Holman said. "I saw a myriad of things. The really good part is that effort and attitude can carry you through a lot. I thought everybody on the field played really, really hard. I thought their effort was outstanding and I thought they had great attitudes trying to do the right things. I thought the comraderie was good amongst the teams as well – a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of positivity. That's the good. We have to get better at the little things, and that's going to be the difference between us being able to beat some of these teams we're going to play, or not. Some little things got better as the game went on and some little things did not get better."
