MONTGOMERY, ALA. – The University of Utah women's tennis team was victorious in the second round of the Blue Gray tournament against the University of Alabama Birmingham with a score of 4-1, but then was defeated by the University of Denver in the final round, 4-0.
In singles, Margo Pletcher got things started for the Utes at the No. 3 position, beating out Megan Bertrands 6-3, 6-1. Then on the No. 5 court, Taylor Calton recorded a win of her own against Sophie Dodds, with a final score of 6-3, 6-0. Whitney Turley then secured the win for the Utah women's tennis team with a victory at the No. 6 spot over UAB's Dominika Hrabalova, with a final score of 6-1, 6-2.
Against Denver, the Pioneers went up early by earning the doubles point. Brianna Chisholm and Margo Pletcher were edged out at the No. 1 spot by Denver's Julia O'Loughlin and Bianca Mok, with a score of 6-2. Camille Verden-Anderson and Gracia Mboko then secured the doubles point for Denver by defeating Alexia Petrovic and Jena Cheng at the No. 2 position, with a final score of 6-4.
In singles, Alexia Petrovic and Jena Cheng both went to three sets against their opponents, but play was cut short when Denver secured the 4-0 victory over the Utes. With this loss, the University of Utah women's tennis team moves to 7-3 overall on the season.
The Utes will be back in action next week on Friday, March 2nd, as they will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to take on the University of New Mexico Lobos. The time for this match has yet to be determined.
