SALT LAKE CITY – Four skiers who previously competed with the University of Utah ski team are set to compete in the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, held Feb. 7-25 in South Korea.
Dominic Demschar (alpine skiing/Australia), Snorri Einarsson (Nordic skiing/Iceland), Mark Engel (alpine skiing/USA) and Roni Remme (alpine skiing/Canada) have all skied at Utah. Demschar is competing in his second Olympics while it is the first games for Einarsson, Engel and Remme.
Former Utah skier Scott Veenis will also be traveling to PyeongChang a coach with the U.S. alpine speed team. He is coaching in his second Olympics.
Dominic Demschar is a three-time NCAA qualifier for the Utes from 2015-17, twice serving as an alternate due to team limits. He is a two-time first-team All-RMISA skier and his one career win came in the first RMISA giant slalom qualifier in 2015. Demschar has three podium finishes and four top-five finishes in his Utah career.
Demschar is competing in his second Olympics for Australia. He also raced at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
Demschar was born in Austria and grew up in Park City. His mother is Australian. His father, Herwig, served as a coach for the Austrian National Ski Team, was the head coach for the U.S. women's alpine team, and also served in leadership roles for the Torino and Salt Lake Olympics.
Snorri Einarsson, who competed two seasons at Utah from 2007-08, won the 2007 NCAA Championship in the 20-km classic. He was a three-time All-American (two freestyle, one classic) and had five wins and 12 podium finishes during his collegiate career. Einarsson was a two-time first-team All-RMISA skier. He was the top men's Nordic NCAA qualifier in 2008.
Einarsson is competing in his first Olympics. He has lived in and competed for both Norway and Iceland during his skiing career.
In his one season at Utah in 2014, Mark Engel won the NCAA giant slalom championship. The first-team All-RMISA skier won the RMISA Championship in the slalom and finished second in the giant slalom. He had four podium finishes during the year.
Engel, who is competing in his first Olympics, has recently had three finishes in the top 26 in the World Cup.

Roni Remme is a three-time All-American in two seasons at Utah (2016-17), including twice in the giant slalom. She finished third in the giant slalom at the 2017 NCAA Championships and was eighth in the slalom. Remme has two career wins at Utah with six career podium finishes. The two-time All-RMISA skier earned first team honors in 2017. Last year she was the recipient of Utah's Toril Forland Outstanding Skier Award.
Remme is competing in her first Olympics. She had her best World Cup finish in early January in the slalom at Zagreb.
Coaches
Scott Veenis Assistant Coach: Men's World Cup Speed Team USA
Scott (Scotty) Veenis skied four seasons at Utah (2006-09) and won the 2006 NCAA giant slalom championship. He was a three-time All-American for the Utes (two giant slalom, one slalom). Veenis was the 2006 RMISA MVP. He graduated from Utah in 2010 with a bachelor of science in international studies.
Veenis is participating in his second Olympics as a coach of the U.S. ski team.

- Former Utah Nordic All-American Nick Hendrickson's sister Sarah is competing in ski jumping for the U.S. Nick competed from 2015-16.
- Former All-American Tii-Maria (Tiitu) Romar (2011-12) is an athletics trainer for the U.S. Ski Team. Trainer Chris Toone also worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the Utes from 2014-15.
- Lindsey Vonn's personal trainer Alex Bunt was a strength and conditioning graduate assistant at Utah and worked with skiing.
- Former skier Lauren Samuels, who competed at Utah from 2014-17, is a skier in Procter & Gamble's latest 'Thank You Mom' advertisement. She is the skier at 1:08 in the video.
