SALT LAKE CITY - Utah will send six competitors to the 2018 NCAA Men's Swimming Championships this Wednesday, March 21 through Saturday, March 24 in Minneapolis, Minn.Â
Â
Paul
Ungur, Liam
O'Haimhirgin,
Jack Burton, Rodolfo
Moreira,
Austin Phillips and
Ben Scott make up the largest contingent of Utes to qualify during head coach Joe
Dykstra's tenure.Â
Ungur and Phillips both represented the Utes last season while it will be a first trip for the other four student-athletes.
Â
Ungur will be swimming in the 100 back and 50 free for the second year in a row, while adding the 100 fly to his repertoire.
O'Haimhirgin will compete in the 50, 100 and 200 free events. Burton,
Moreira, Phillips and Scott will represent the Utes in three relays; the 200 free, 200 medley and 400 medley.
Â
Ungur is the school record holder in the 100 back, which he set at this year's Pac-12 Championships. He finished in an incredible three-way tie to capture the event in a time of 45.52 and with his performance, he became Utah's first individual medalist of the conference event and third in program history.
Â
The senior from Romania also ranks second all-time at Utah in the 50 free after placing
11th at this year's Pac-12 Championships with a time of 19.56. He ranks sixth in the 100 fly with a time of 47.66 at the 2016 Ohio State Invitational.
Â
O'Haimhirgin ranks among Utah's top five in all three events he will be competing in this week. He ranks second in the 100 free after placing fourth at the Pac-12 Championships with a time of 42.36. He ranks fourth in both the 50 free (19.70) and 200 free (1:34.72) due to his outstanding performances this year in Federal Way, Wash.
Â
Burton,
Moreira and Scott are three-fourths of the school record holding 200 medley relay team with a time of 1:24.80 at this season's Art Adamson Invitational. The same trio teamed with
Ungur at this year's Pac-12 Championships to finish sixth overall (1:25.70). Phillips is the school record holder in the 200 free.Â
